School Choice Timeline
Deadline for student application for transfer to a nonresident school district. The application form must be postmarked no later than May 1 of the year in which the student seeks to begin the fall semester at the nonresident district. A nonresident district that receives an application must time stamp the application reflecting the date and time of receipt. The nonresident district must notify the resident district of the filing of the application. The nonresident district must make a determination on each application in the order it was received.
By July 1 of the school year in which the student seeks to enroll in a nonresident school district, the superintendent of the nonresident district shall notify the parent and the resident district in writing as to whether the student’s application has been accepted or rejected.
10 days following receipt of notice of rejection
A request for a hearing before the Arkansas State Board of Education must be in writing and postmarked no later than ten (10) days after the student or student’s parent receives a notice of rejection of the application for transfer to a nonresident school district.
The Department of Education must report to each school district the net maximum number of school choice transfers for the next school year by December 15.
